Detroit Now & Then: Revival

Seville Apartments, 2011 and 2013

The neighborhood of Palmer Park on Detroit's north side is home to one of the best collections of historic apartments in the city, with over 50 buildings of diverse style and design. Though once fairly upscale, the neighborhood slid into decline in the 1950's, and many of the apartment buildings were abandoned. But over the last few years, a development company has been buying up these historic properties and pouring millions of dollars into renovating them into affordable housing.

Above, the Seville Apartments as it appeared in 2011 and today. The building had been vacant for at least 10 years when renovation started in the fall of 2012.
